Types of Notifications

BashWeather sends the following types of notifications:

• Daily Weather Brief (Push): A morning push notification summarising the day's weather for your first saved location. Sent once per day.
• In-App Daily Brief Card: A bottom-sheet summary shown once per day when you open the app, even without push permission.
• System Alerts: Occasional important notices about service changes, security updates, or significant policy changes. These are rare and only sent when necessary.

How We Send Push Notifications

Push notifications are delivered using the Web Push API, a standard browser technology. The technical pipeline is:

• Your browser generates a unique push subscription endpoint and encryption keys
• This subscription is sent to our Cloudflare Worker and stored encrypted in Cloudflare KV, linked to your account
• At 06:00 UTC daily, our Cloudflare Worker fetches weather data and sends an encrypted push message to your browser's push service (operated by your browser vendor — Google, Mozilla, Apple, etc.)
• Your browser's service worker receives the push and displays the notification

All push payloads are encrypted end-to-end using RFC 8291 (ECDH + AES-128-GCM). Neither BashWeather nor Cloudflare can read the content of push messages in transit.

What Notifications Contain

Every push notification from BashWeather contains only:

• Your city name (first saved location)
• Current weather condition (e.g. "Partly Cloudy")
• Today's high and low temperatures
• A weather icon

Notifications never contain: advertisements, affiliate links, promotional content, or personal data beyond your city name.

Frequency

Push notifications are sent once daily at approximately 06:00 UTC (equivalent to approximately 09:00 Amman/Riyadh, 08:00 Cairo, 07:00 London). We do not send multiple notifications per day and have no capability to send real-time weather alerts at this time.

How to Enable

Push notifications are opt-in only. To enable them:

1. Sign in to BashWeather with your Google account
2. Wait for the Daily Brief card to appear (shown once per day)
3. Tap "Enable Notifications" — your browser will ask for permission
4. Grant permission to activate daily weather push notifications

How to Disable

You can disable push notifications at any time through:

• Browser settings: Go to your browser's notification settings and revoke permission for BashWeather.
• Opt-Out page: Visit /opt-out and toggle off "Push Notifications".
• OS settings: On mobile, revoke notification permission via your device's app/notification settings.

Once disabled, your push subscription endpoint is deleted from our Cloudflare KV storage.

Data Used for Notifications

To deliver push notifications, we store:

• Your browser's push subscription endpoint (a URL provided by your browser's push service)
• Encryption keys used to secure the notification payload
• Your saved locations (to know what weather to fetch)

This data is stored in Cloudflare KV, keyed to your Google account ID. It is deleted when you unsubscribe or delete your account. It is never sold or shared with third parties.
