1. What Ads We Show

BashWeather is a free-to-use weather Progressive Web App. To sustain the service and cover infrastructure costs, we display advertisements within the app interface. Our commitment is to keep advertising unobtrusive, clearly distinguishable from weather content, and relevant to our users.

Advertisements may appear in the following locations within BashWeather:

• Banner ad units displayed below the main weather card on the home screen.
• Interstitial or interstitial-style placements that appear between navigation actions (limited frequency).
• In-feed units within the hourly or daily forecast scroll area.
• Notification-adjacent placements within weather alert detail views.

We do not show ads that contain malware, use deceptive design patterns, auto-play audio, or simulate system alerts. We do not display adult content, gambling ads, or any category that is prohibited by applicable law in our target regions (EU, US, Jordan, MENA).

Premium users (if applicable) may have reduced or no advertising depending on their subscription tier.

2. How Ads Are Targeted

BashWeather uses two approaches to deliver advertising:

Contextual Advertising

Contextual ads are based solely on the content you are viewing — for example, the current weather conditions, season, or location name. No personal data about you is used. Contextual advertising is the default for all users who have not consented to personalized advertising, and for all users in jurisdictions where personalized advertising requires explicit consent (including the EU under the GDPR and ePrivacy Directive).

Personalized / Interest-Based Advertising

If you have provided consent for personalized advertising (via our Consent Manager), our advertising partners may use cookies, device identifiers, and browsing signals to deliver ads tailored to your interests. This may include cross-site tracking via third-party cookies set by our advertising partners.

Signals that may be used for ad personalization include:

• Your general geographic location (city or region level, not precise GPS coordinates).
• The weather conditions and forecast screens you have viewed.
• Your device type, browser, and operating system.
• Time of day and season.
• Inferred interests based on browsing behavior shared by advertising network partners.

We never sell your email address, name, or Google account information to advertisers.

3. Affiliate Links

Some links within BashWeather — including links to weather-related products, gear, services, or app recommendations — may be affiliate links. If you click on an affiliate link and make a purchase or sign up for a service, BashWeather may receive a commission or referral fee at no additional cost to you.

Affiliate relationships we may participate in include, but are not limited to:

• Amazon Associates program (for weather instruments, outdoor gear, etc.).
• App store affiliate programs for weather-related third-party applications.
• Travel or outdoor activity booking platforms linked from weather destination cards.

Affiliate links are identified as such wherever they appear. We only link to products or services that we believe are genuinely useful to our users. Affiliate compensation does not influence our weather data, forecasts, or editorial content in any way.

This disclosure is made in compliance with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) guidelines on endorsements and testimonials (16 CFR Part 255), EU Directive 2005/29/EC on unfair commercial practices, and equivalent consumer protection regulations in Jordan and MENA.

4. Sponsored Content

From time to time, BashWeather may publish or feature sponsored content — articles, weather tips, destination guides, or feature highlights that are paid for by an advertiser or brand partner. Sponsored content is subject to the following rules:

• All sponsored content is labeled with a visible "Sponsored," "Ad," or "Promoted" indicator before or alongside the content.
• Sponsored content must not make false or misleading weather-related claims.
• BashWeather maintains editorial independence — advertisers cannot request changes to actual weather data, forecasts, or safety warnings.
• Sponsored content must comply with applicable advertising standards including the UK ASA/CAP Code, FTC guidelines, and IAB standards.

6. How to Opt Out of Personalized Ads

You have several mechanisms available to limit or opt out of personalized advertising:

• BashWeather Consent Manager: Visit bashweather.app/consent and disable "Personalized Advertising" to switch to contextual-only ads immediately.
• BashWeather Opt-Out page: Submit a formal opt-out request at bashweather.app/opt-out.
• Google Ad Settings: Manage your Google advertising preferences at adssettings.google.com.
• Your Online Choices (EU): Use the IAB Europe opt-out tool at youronlinechoices.eu.
• NAI Opt-Out (US): Use the Network Advertising Initiative opt-out tool at optout.networkadvertising.org.
• DAA Opt-Out (US): Use the Digital Advertising Alliance tool at optout.aboutads.info.
• Browser "Do Not Track": BashWeather honors the Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal. Browsers and extensions that send a GPC signal will automatically be served non-personalized advertising.

7. Your Choices

In summary, you have the following advertising-related rights and choices when using BashWeather:

• Opt out of personalized ads at any time via the Consent Manager without losing access to any core weather features.
• Request deletion of advertising profiles we may have created about you by emailing privacy@bashweather.app.
• EU users: Under GDPR, you may object to processing of your data for direct marketing purposes at any time (Article 21). You may also withdraw consent for interest-based advertising at any time.
• California users: Under CCPA/CPRA, you have the right to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of your personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. Submit this request via our Opt-Out page or by clicking the "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" link in the footer.
• Jordan / MENA users: You may withdraw consent for advertising data processing by contacting us at privacy@bashweather.app.
